Onko elämää festarin jälkeen? / Is there life after the festival?

Oleeeee!!
Illan aikana nautimme sekä kokeellisesta flamencosta Replaying Silence -teoksen muodossa että perinteisestä flamencosta Homenaje a la Familia Fernandez -teoksen muodossa. Väliajalla saimme kuulla päätähti Nino de los Reyesin ajatuksia flamencotanssijan arjesta ja flamencosta yleensä. Hieno ilta kaikenkaikkiaan!

Kiitos kaikille osallistuneille! Tästä on hyvä jatkaa taas eteenpäin!

The work-intensive but joyful festival week is over and this passed week has been spent recovering. In reality, the festival week has been the most refreshing thing I can remember in a long time. We started with a successful sevillanas event at the Kamppi shopping center and after that it was great to carry on to the sold-out Opening club at Lavaklubi at the National theater.

For me the Opening club was the most intensive event as I was in charge of producing the event with my fellow board member, Petri. I was also on stage three times. I had already produced the club last year so producing was full of familiar tasks including for example overseeing the floor construction and soundcheck. The real excitement came from the premieres of both Anne-Riikola Sarkkila's dance group Palavana and the flamenco duo Sal y Azúcar. In addition, the board decided to end the evening with a bulerias juerga. The excitement together with the bright lights, slippery floor and a 150 head audience produced some small errors but as a whole, the evening was a success. At best, Palavana featured 10 dancers, a singer and guitarist, and the the stage was quite packed. Also, the tangos de malaga y titi choreography by Elina Robinson for Duo Sal y Azúcar was our first ever duet and solo and even with small imperfections, we had to be pleased with our performance. The completely improvised bulerias juerga by board members presented what flamenco can at best be in good company.

The first festival weekend ended with the free of charge, first-time-ever event at Kirjasto 10 with flamenco music. I was so inspired by the event that I had the energy to attend my regular Sunday classes after a short break on the couch at the FiestaFlamenca flamenco school.

Our main performer Nino de los Reyes arrived from Madrid on Monday and we got to enjoy four days of classes with him. After much contemplation I had decided to attend the highest level (advanced/professionals) course. Although the mid level tangos classes seemed quite fun, I was in the end extremely happy with my decision. Lately I have come to the conclusion that I am most inspired by more challenge rather than less. The course produced challenges, and by no means could I fulfill all the nuances but I couldn't have been happier with how much I could actually do in that level! Motivation is at its peek right now! We had the pleasure of enjoying the company of Nino de los Reyes during the whole week at courses, during free time, in the backstage and on stage! What a charming personality and talent! During the week he also achieved our deepest admiration by visiting the sauna and avanto (hole in the ice)!

On Friday the festival program featured the Finnish evening and to my horror I had agreed to present the show! While practicing at home during the morning, I thought I would never survive but in the end on stage I was completely relaxed and did not even glance at the paper in my hand. What a great moment of stepping outside my comfort zone once again! Oleee!!! During the evening we enjoyed both of contemporary flamenco with Replaying Silence and traditional flamenco with Homenaje a la Familia Fernandez and during the intermission we got to hear the thoughts of our maestro and performer Nino de los Reyes. What a great evening all together!

Saturday was the day of the  long awaited main concert! I started my day with my vice president Katjalina by producing to the stage all the props and accessories required by Nino de los Reyes and his crew while our festival producers took care of our stars. The main concert preparations carried on during the afternoon and early evening and in the evening we got to enjoy the incredible performance Inside by Nino de los Reyes and his compañía who arrived from Madrid on Friday! What a great performance! The evening and the festival ended in dinner and celebration! After a successful festival the festive mood carried on long into the early hours of the morning. Thank you to all who participated! What a great motivation to carry on!
